A New Student
Making a New Student Feel Welcome:
- have a desk ready in advance for your new student
- learn how to pronounce your student's name correctly
- put a name tag with your student's name written in English and their home language (if different) on their desk
- have basic school supplies ready for your student (paper, pencil, etc.) so they can participate
- pair them and sit them by a friendly buddy (if you can one that speaks the same language)
- show the buddy ways to use gestures to communicate
